Did you know that more people moved to North Carolina in 2025 than any other state in the country? Every day on average, 66 people move to Wake County, but only 35 housing units are built. This housing shortage has led to higher prices and higher rents, especially for lower income for families. How does Jesus’s command to welcome the stranger inform our solutions to the affordable housing crisis?

For this month’s Matthew 25 Forum, the Kirk’s Director of Mission, Evan Magen, will present. In addition to his work at the Kirk, Evan has long had a passion for affordable housing. His undergraduate economics thesis focused on eviction and gentrification in Charlotte. He worked as an educator and advocate for Roof Above, a non-profit serving people experiencing homelessness in Charlotte. His writing on faith-based approaches to affordable housing has been published in Southern Urbanism and online at the Faith-Based Housing Initiative.
