Matthew 25 Forum | Hunger and Thirst
“For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me…Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.”
—Matthew 25:35-36, 40
In these verses, Jesus offers six moments where we encounter him: among the hungry, the thirsty, the stranger, the naked, the sick, and the incarcerated. Throughout this year, the Kirk will host Matthew 25 Forums where we will explore each opportunity to encounter Christ. The Forum will meet in the fellowship hall before worship from 9:15-10:15.
Each Matthew 25 Forum will host an expert in the field to begin the conversation about the root causes of the issue, especially its connections to racism and poverty. Each Forum is an opportunity to ask: “What does it mean to encounter Christ here?”
On Sunday, March 22, the first Matthew 25 Forum will discuss hunger and its connection to our faith. To present on the causes of hunger and our response as Christians, we are excited to welcome Dr. Annie Hardison-Moody.
Dr. Annie Hardison-Moody is a professor in the Department of Agricultural and Human Sciences at NC State University where she leads Faithful Families Thriving Communities, a research-tested faith-based health promotion initiative with NC State and the North Carolina Division of Public Health.
Dr. Hardison-Moody received her PhD in religion at Emory University in 2012, where her studies focused on the intersections of religion and public health. Dr. Hardison-Moody continues to work in the emerging field of religion and health, with a focus on gender, food and food insecurity, and poverty.
