Kirk of Kildaire

LOVING our NEIGHBORS

“As you do it for the least of these, you do it for me.” – Matthew 25:40

Neighborhood Ministries

The 25th Chapter of the Gospel of Matthew tells us to pay attention to the hungry, the thirsty, the naked, the stranger, the sick, and the imprisoned, as whatever we do for those around us in need is that which we do for Christ.

The Matthew 25 Initiative of the Presbyterian Church (USA) calls on the church to be a people of action, connecting congregational life to issues of poverty and racial injustice.

At the Kirk of Kildaire, we aim to answer this call to action right in our own neighborhood, through ministries designed to address food insecurity, affordable housing, and educational needs.

Come and serve with any of our Neighborhood Ministries.

The Kirk Food Pantry

The Kirk Food Pantry, housed in the church, is stocked with food, household goods, and personal toiletries that are provided by Kirk members through financial contribution or brought in as donations. The Pantry is run entirely by volunteers who greet and assist nearly 100 families every week. The Pantry is open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 9am to Noon year-round. Shoppers can come by during operating hours for more information. To learn more about volunteering or to donate, call the church office for assistance.

Kirk Community Garden

The Kirk Community Garden is a year-round operation, providing fresh produce for our Food Pantry, Saturday Food Distribution, and other neighbors in need. Volunteers gather on Wednesday evenings and Saturday mornings for Garden workdays.

Saturday Food Distribution
Every other Saturday morning, Kirk volunteers gather the parking lot where cars line up to receive fresh food and grocery staples at no cost. If you are interested in being a part of this important ministry, please call the church office.
Support of The Food Bank

Kirk volunteers gather regularly to unload, sort, and store items brought in from the Food Bank of North Carolina each week. These items are then available for the Kirk Pantry or Saturday distributions to our neighbors in need. Volunteers are always welcome. Call the church office for more information on how to get involved with this important ministry.

Habitat for Humanity

The Kirk provides a group of volunteers one Saturday of every month to work on homes being built by Habitat for Humanity of Wake County. Volunteers usually donate about 6-7 hours. Experience is not required. This is a great team building activity for Sunday School classes, K-Groups, families and other small groups, and for individuals to work with other Kirk members.

For more information visit habitatwake.org. To volunteer for this mission contact Kirk member, Amy Huenemann.

Presbyterian Women Circles, Kirk Small Groups, and Kirk Youth prepare and serve a complete dinner several times a year to approximately 65-70 residents at the Helen Wright Center for Women, a homeless shelter in Raleigh. Meals are delivered to the center by Kirk volunteers by 6:30 pm and dinner is served at 7:00 pm. Your team can choose to stay and serve dinner or drop off only. Center residents handle clean up. One of the volunteers loading food from the Kirk needs to have a key fob to the church. Those serving can expect to return to the Kirk no later than 8:00 pm.
