Finance/Business Manager — Kirk of Kildaire Presbyterian Church

Kirk of Kildaire Presbyterian Church in Cary, N.C. is seeking a skilled and mission‑minded Finance/Business Manager to oversee the financial operations that support our ministries, staff, and congregation. This role is ideal for an experienced accounting professional who understands both the technical demands of nonprofit finance and the unique rhythms of a large church community.

The Finance/Business Manager is responsible for contributions, accounts payable, bank reconciliations, general ledger management, budgeting, payroll, tax reporting, and the stewardship of confidential donor information. This position works closely with Pastoral leadership, staff, Session members, congregants, and outside partners.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and record all contributions and online giving
  • Oversee accounts payable, credit card activity, and disbursements
  • Reconcile all church accounts and prepare monthly financial reports
  • Provide financial reporting to ministry teams and Session
  • Prepare annual statistical and financial reports for governing bodies
  • Respond to member inquiries and resolve discrepancies
  • Generate quarterly and annual donor statements
  • Administer payroll and payroll tax filings
  • Manage employee benefits, Pastoral Terms of Call, and vendor relationships
  • Support stewardship efforts and annual budget development
  • Coordinate annual financial review with the Finance Committee
  • Supervise the part‑time Financial Assistant and volunteer counting teams
  • Oversee stock gifts, charitable distributions, and other special contributions
  • Serve as liaison to the Finance Committee and advisor on business and tax matters
  • Provide support and assistance in human resources, insurance, inventory and church asset management

Qualifications

  • Degree in accounting or 5+ years of related experience
  • CPA and/or large‑church or nonprofit experience preferred
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, especially for nonprofits
  • High integrity, accuracy, and confidentiality
  • Proficiency with Excel, QuickBooks, and church management software
  • Payroll experience
  • Strong communication skills  
  • Leadership ability to guide staff and volunteers
