Welcome to Faith Quest

Holy Week

March 16 - April 13, 2003

In this rotation, we will explore the events that took place during Holy Week.  Holy Week covers the last days of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

“Hooray, God bless the one who comes in the name of the Lord", shout the people as Jesus rides into Jerusalem on a donkey.  The religious and government leaders did not like hearing this and plotted to kill him.  Judas, one of Jesus' own disciples, makes a deal with the leaders to betray Jesus for 30 pieces of silver.  Soon it is Passover and Jesus is sharing a meal with his disciples.  During the meal Jesus blesses the bread and wine and tells his disciples that the bread and wine are symbols of His body and blood and that when we eat of the bread and drink of the wine we are to remember him.  We call this communion or the Last Supper.  Soon Jesus leaves for Gethsemane, where he prays.  Judas arrives with a crowd, gives Jesus a kiss, and Jesus is arrested.

Our memory verse is Proverbs 19:21 (CEV)

"We may make a lot of plans but the Lord will do what he has decided."

Family Time and Prayer:

Read:  Matthew 21:1-11, 26:1-56

Reflection:  Jesus lived on earth a long time ago.  He went from place to place and told the people about God and how to live the way God wants us to.  How do you think God wants us to live?  Wherever Jesus went, the people followed.  Jesus helped the people and the people wanted to make Jesus their king.  The church leaders did not like to hear that and plotted to kill Jesus.  Jesus was hung on a cross, but three days later a wonderful thing happened.  Jesus rose from the dead.  He was alive!  He had risen!  Jesus, who was perfect, died so that our sins could be forgiven.  And if we believe in Jesus and try to live the way he wants us to, we will be with Him in heaven after our earthly lives.

Prayer:  Dear God, Thank you for the gift of your son, so that we may learn your ways, and be with you always.  Amen.

Offering:  Your offering will go to One Great Hour of Sharing.  Presbyterians all over the country give to this offering every year, and the money is used to help people all over the world who are in situations that aren't fair, like people who don't have enough to eat or a way to earn a living, or people who have been in disasters like floods and earthquakes.  Please bring your offering to the jar in the Great Hall.
