Welcome to Faith Quest

Pentecost

May 25 - June 15, 2003

Did you know that the church has a birthday?  It is called Pentecost and takes  place 50 days after Easter.  And what a day that first birthday was!

For forty days after Easter, Jesus appeared to the disciples to explain his death and resurrection.  Then Jesus ascended to heaven.  But before he went, he told the disciples to wait for the Holy Spirit to come and fill them with power from heaven.  For the next nine days the disciples prayed and on the tenth day, the Holy Spirit arrived in the form of a powerful wind that filled the whole house.  Then, for a moment, separate little tongues of fire were seen above everyone's head.  They felt the warmth and life that Jesus had always brought to them and they knew that the Holy Spirit had come to live in them forever.  They were bursting with joy and went outside to tell others of their experience.  On this day the church was born.

Our Memory Verse is:

But the Holy Spirit will come and help you, because the Father will send the Spirit to take my place.  The Spirit will teach you everything and will remind you of what I said while I was with you.  John 14:26 (CEV)

What we will learn:

The Holy Spirit came to the community of believers just as God had promised.

Believing in Jesus Christ allows the Holy Spirit to grow within us.

The Holy Spirit gives us power to tell the world about Jesus.

The good news of Jesus Christ is for all who will listen.

When the Holy Spirit lives in us we feel joy, peace and direction to make the right choice.

What is happening in Faith Quest Workshops?

In Creation Station we will create crowns of waving flames

marked with God’s word in foreign languages.

Out of the whispery gibberish of tongues, Praising Puppets hear their names.

In Holywood, watch a video of the disciples receiving the Holy Spirit at Pentecost.

Be the wind and the Holy Spirit as you touch the lives of disciples in Apostle's Playhouse.

Family Time and Prayer:

Read:  Acts 2:1-13

Reflection:  Jesus said that we are to be witnesses for him.  Witnesses are people who tell what they know.  Jesus wants us to tell others about Him, and that He died and rose again to save us from our sins.  Some people will believe and some won't.  Whether someone believes in Jesus or not, is not up to us.  Only the Holy Spirit can work faith in a person's heart.  But we can be an example of Jesus’ love. How can we tell others about Jesus?

Prayer:   Dear God, please help us learn more about Jesus and how to be good witnesses for your love.  Help us learn to listen to the Holy Spirit within us. We pray for safety and a successful mission for Dan and Elizabeth Turk, your disciples to the people in Madagascar. In your name we pray.  Amen.

Offering:  Your offering will go to help Dan and Elizabeth Turk, our missionaries in Madagascar.  The Turks are wonderful disciples of Jesus. They are in constant need of medical and practical supplies.  Please help us, help them in their work. Bring your offering to the jar in the Great Hall.
