Susan Says.....
July 12, 2007
Each day I am here at the Kirk I am amazed at the wonderful
involvement and commitment of both the congregation and staff
toward ministry in the faith community near and far. I am
very grateful to be a part of the Kirk experience this summer,
and also for the welcoming words from so many of you. Thank
you
As we continue to focus on different worship experiences this
summer here at the Kirk, I look forward to leading our Service
for Healing and Wholeness on Sunday, July 29. The order for
our service will be based on the service which is found in
our Book of Common Worship.
The greatest challenge I face right now concerns my own understanding
of healing and wholeness in our contemporary world, and how
this relates scripturally. As we read the Bible, we know that
healing was an essential part of Jesus' ministry. Jesus healed
in many different ways, with and for people from all walks
of life. Very often in today's culture, we view "healings"
as "magic" or as an attempt to manipulate God rather
than as a gift of the Holy Spirit.
I hope that you will come to this service with an openness
to healing and wholeness that is given to us as individuals
and as a church through the power of the Holy Spirit. Perhaps
we can then see healing and wholeness as a journey toward
our perfect relationship with God which we ultimately know
through the perfect love of Jesus Christ.
