Steph's Stuff

May 31, 2007

The school year is winding down for most students and summer break is right around the corner. As I reflect on the Sunday school year, I am thankful for all of the people who have shared faith with the children and youth of the Kirk.

This year we gave a challenge to the Faith Quest elementary children. We challenged them to memorize all of the memory verses for the year. If you walk in the Great Hall, you will see how well they have done. On the back wall, there are posters for each age group that are over-flowing with the names of children who have risen to the occasion! It is exciting to see so many children committing Bible verses to memory.

In a few weeks, Vacation Bible School will take-over the church as it is transformed into a sea-side village. The kids will be immersed in Bible-times culture as they hear about Jesus' teachings and miracles. If you haven't been at the church while this is going on, I think you would be surprised at the transformation. In the Fellowship Hall, all of the tables and chairs are gone, replaced by tents, mats, rugs and crafts. The Narthex becomes a synagogue, complete with flowing tents, the Torah, and a Rabbi. All of the children and adults have Bible-time costumes to make the experience complete.

Adult and youth volunteers are critical to making this a great program. With over 90 children already signed up, there are still places where volunteers are desperately needed. It is a rewarding experience to work with so many children.

The Vacation Bible School team is specifically looking for people to lead recreation (there are fun, uncomplicated games to play with the children), people to be on the drama team (simple 5 minute skits), volunteers to be in the craft workshops (leading easy crafts that we supply for you) and people to be tribe leaders (guiding a small group of children).

While we are always appreciative of all of our volunteers, we would really love to see new faces helping out-- particularly men, older adults and young people. If you are interested, please contact Patty Snow.

Please pray for the children who will be attending, their families and the volunteers as we all learn about Jesus during this powerful experience.
