Mary Kay's Cary Days

March 1, 2007

Dear friends,

It’s Wednesday afternoon and I have just come from enjoying a delicious lunch of chili and cornbread prepared here at the Kirk and offered after our lunchtime music and meditations called "Sounds of the Spirit" for Lenten Wednesdays. A special thanks to the K-group including Allison Connors, Ann Grundstrom, Annette Homiller, Cindy Wagner, Jennifer Leonard, Julie Bell, Kathy Keller, Robin Shannon, Vicki Bloch and Kathy Earley. They prepared and served our lunch and will continue to do so for several more Lenten weeks. Next week’s menu is Brunswick stew, biscuits and dessert. We still could use another group of persons to do lunches on March 21 and April 4. Come and enjoy a reading from Psalms and music to feed your soul!

This week during worship The "Psalm 150" Ensemble will lead the musical selections at the 9:00 a.m. service. They invite you to join in a sing-along beginning at 8:40 a.m. to learn and enjoy some new contemporary songs. Members of this group include Robert Babb, Janet Barclay, Peggy Booth, Shelly Bowser, Bill Boyle, Ellen Boyle, Paul Hamilton, Phil Hamilton, Amy Huenemann, Ken Purchase and David Wells. They are in need of a keyboardist comfortable with contemporary style as well as additional instrumentalists. Please contact Ken Purchase if you are interested. Ellen Boyle will be singing “Would they love Him down in Shreveport?” at this service also. It’s great to hear all styles of music here at the Kirk!

During the 11:00 a.m. worship our children and youth handbell ensembles will be playing. The Genesis ringers are offering a communion selection entitled “Bread of the World in Mercy Broken,” while the Coventry Ringers will accompany us in singing the opening hymn this day. The Coventry “6” Ringers, an ensemble of the high school ringers, will be playing “Tis The Gift to Be Simple” as an offertory. Chancel Choir will be singing a medley of favorite “cross” songs as we continue in the spirit of Lent.

Any singers interested in joining any of our choirs, please feel free to speak to any ensemble member. Our rehearsals are open to all!

Wishing you a wonderful week!

Peace,
Mary Kay
