Christian Education at the Kirk

The Kirk provides Christian education for children (infant through 5th grade), youth (6th through 12th grades) and adults.

Children's Ministries

Our mission is to teach our children to: know God, love God, serve God

The Kirk has a wonderful ministry of Christian programs for children.   We would love to have you join us.  For room locations at the Kirk, please check the bulletin boards, maps throughout the buildings or the Christian Education brochures available in the narthex.

"Let the little children come to me, do not stop them; for it is to such as these that the kingdom of God belongs."  -  Mark 10:14 RSV

Nursery

A fully-staffed nursery on the lower level of the main building is available beginning at 8:45 am for the first worship service and continuing through the Sunday School time and the second worship service for infants to two-year-olds.

10:00 am Sunday School

Faith Walk is the Kirk's education program for children three-years old through Kindergarten.  We provide an exciting, modified workshop rotation format where the same Bible story is taught for a five-week period using multi-learning style lessons.  The children take part in telling the Bible story via different media, such as puppets or flannel board figures, learn the story through music, as well as create expressions of art that shows what they are learning, such as creating a mural for Creation.

Faith Quest is the Kirk's education program for children in grades 1 through 5.  Faith Quest is a Workshop Rotation program that incorporates Storytelling, Art, Drama, Puppets and Video workshops to present multi-learning style lessons from God’s Word.  Faith Quest children meet in the Great Hall to begin the Quest each Sunday at 9:45 am.  After a short gathering time, each class goes to their designated workshop for the remainder of the Sunday School time.  Visit our Faith Quest curriculum page.

8:45 am & 11:00 am Christian Fellowship

Christian Fellowship is available for three and four-year-olds and for five-year olds who are not in Kindergarten during the worship services.  These classes meet after the Time with Children during worship.

1st service: Three-year-olds hear Bible stories, make simple crafts and play together in a safe, nurturing environment. This class meets in room S-15 off the Great Hall.

Children's Choir: Ages 4-K meet after the Time with Children in room M-18 off the Fellowship Hall.

2nd service: Three, four, and five-year-olds (not in Kindergarten) hear Bible stories, make simple crafts, sing songs and play together in a safe, nurturing environment. This class meets in the Great Hall.

11:00 Preparing Children for Participation in Worship (PCPW)

Preparing Children for Participation in Worship is a very special program taught to our second graders.  In this class, the children and teacher discuss in detail:  the Order of Worship, the Church Year time elements, the meaning of the Sacraments, The Lord's Prayer, The Apostle's Creed, what the offering is used for, and many other topics.   This will enable the children to actively participate in worship upon completing PCPW.  The class meets briefly in the classroom prior to the 11:00 service and goes as a group to the Sanctuary for worship until the end of the Children's Sermon.  They then adjourn to the classroom for study.

2007's Vacation Bible School Theme was

Plan to join us in 2008. Children ages 4 years to 5th grade are invited to attend and to invite friends, neighbors and classmates. Vacation Bible School is always one of the best weeks of the year (just ask anyone who has attended in the past years.) We hope you will come join the fun. In the late spring we will have paper registration and online registration. If you have any questions, contact Patti Snow at patsnow@nc.rr.com.

Sunday School for Youth

Christian Education strives to help Kirk youth in their growth as faithful disciples of Jesus Christ.  Youth classes meet at 9:45 am.

Christian Education for Adults

The Kirk offers a number of opportunities for Christian Education for adults so they can continue their study of the Bible and their spiritual development.  Often the insights gained in adult Christian Education activities leads to a fuller, richer faith journey and more active involvement in the ministry of the church.  Have a look at our programs!
